Cultivating Care WA
Cultivating care for self, community and nature.
Garden Therapy, counselling and community-based support in Perth WA.
What is Cultivating Care WA?
Cultivating Care WA was created by Simon Rolph, a Perth-based counsellor and support worker, to bring together Garden Therapy, counselling and community-based support in ways that are practical, person-centred and grounded in meaningful activity.
Rather than fitting everyone into one model, support is shaped around what is most helpful for the person — their goals, interests, needs, pace and preferred way of working.
At the heart of the work is a simple idea: care can be cultivated through our relationship with ourselves, with community, and with the living world around us.
The Three Gardens Approach
A simple framework for shaping support through gardens, nature and meaningful connection.
At Cultivating Care WA, Garden Therapy can be shaped around Three Gardens: Community Gardens, Home Gardens and Nature’s Garden.
Community Gardens
Shared garden spaces that can support routine, participation, social connection and meaningful contribution.
Home Gardens
A person’s own garden, courtyard, balcony or indoor plant space, supporting confidence, everyday skills, routine and care in familiar surroundings.
Nature’s Garden
Perth’s own Nature’s Garden — coastline, winding rivers, bushland and quiet green spaces can offer room to move, slow down, reflect and reconnect.
About Simon Rolph
Simon Rolph is the founder of Cultivating Care WA. He is a Perth-based counsellor and support worker with a background in counselling, disability support, horticulture and community gardening.
Simon grew up on a farm, where daily life was closely connected to land, seasons, animals and practical outdoor work. After moving to Australia and spending many years in counselling and disability support, he became increasingly interested in how meaningful support can also happen through gardens, plants, nature and hands-on activity.
Cultivating Care WA brings these parts together — therapeutic conversation, practical support, garden-based activity, community participation and care for the living world.
Ways to work with Simon
Support can be shaped in different ways, depending on the person’s goals, needs, preferences and funding.
Garden Therapy
Garden-based support using gardens, plants, nature and meaningful outdoor activity to support wellbeing, purpose, participation and connection.
Counselling
Counselling for people who benefit from a respectful, practical and person-centred approach. Sessions may be offered at home, online, or in garden and nature settings where appropriate.
Community Support
Practical support to access the community, build routines, attend appointments, use public transport, develop confidence and take part in everyday activities.
Practical information and costs
Cultivating Care WA welcomes private clients, as well as self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants, where the support aligns with the person’s goals, needs and funding.
Simon is not currently an NDIS registered provider, so services are generally not available where the relevant funding is NDIA-managed.
Costs vary depending on the type of support, session length, location, travel, funding arrangement and what is suitable for the person. For NDIS participants, fees are generally guided by the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits for the relevant type of support.
The way support is provided will depend on the person’s goals, the type of support being requested, location, safety, availability and whether the service is the right fit.
Before support begins, costs and practical details can be discussed through an initial enquiry and meet-and-greet process.
